Flood management: Bahawalpur divided into four sectors

Coordination committees have been formed in each sector

BAHAWALPUR: DCO Ehtisham Anwer Mahar said on Friday that Bahawalpur had been divided into four sectors for effective flood management.

He was talking to newsmen during a briefing on the flood situation at his conference room.

The DCO said the Chenab sector covered Ahmadpur East through two sub-sectors (Chenab I and Chenab II). He said the Sutlej I sectors covered Bahawalpur city. He said Sutlej II had been marked for Bahawalpurb Saddar and Sutlej III covered Khairpur Tamewali and Hasilpur.

The DCO said a comprehensive flood management mechanism had been devised to cope with any emergency.

He said a coordination committee had been formed in each sector. He said assistant commissioners had been designated as focal persons for the committee.

The DCO said 300 Rescue 1122 workers had been provided training by Pakistan Army to lead rescue and relief operations.

He said two exercises had been conducted on May 2 and June 1 to check the preparedness of the district administration, Pakistan Army, Rescue 1122, the Health Department, the Agriculture Department and the Livestock Department at Sutlej.
