ATTOCK: A man along with his brothers thrashed his wife and sister-in-law after inviting them home, on the pretext of giving them “haq mehr” and dowry, here in the jurisdiction of the City police, on Wednesday.

Iqra Yasmeen, a resident of Darul Islam Colony, lodged a complaint with the City police, alleging that her brother-in-law Naveed Sultan, and his two brothers, Waheed Sultan and Abdullah bin Umar, beat her and her sister Samina Yasmeen, who was married to Naveed, up with sticks, while they were visiting their house to pick up Samina’s dowry items.

She said that Samina had married Naveed, a resident of Dhoke Fateh, four years ago, and soon after their marriage, the couple developed differences.

Iqra said that her sister had left Naveed’s house a few weeks ago, upon learning that Naveed had married another woman without her permission.

“On June 18, a local jirga demanded that Naveed pay the amount of haq mehr due, and also to return her dowry, and he accepted the jirga’s decision,” she maintained.
