Terrorism charges: Karak residents demand case against MPA, his uncle

Say accused illegally detained, tortured two locals

PESHAWAR: Residents of Karak have demanded that an FIR should be registered against MPA Gul Sahib Khan, district nazim Umar Daraz and the latter’s uncle, Lal Shireen, on terrorism charges.

The request was made during a news conference at Peshawar Press Club on Wednesday. Ghulam Raza Khan, a resident of Karak, told journalists Shireen, a town municipal administration (TMA) employee and uncle of PTI MPA Gul Sahib Khan, tied Muhammad Aslam and Muhammad Israr with ropes at Kalma Chowk in the district.

He said when they tried to escape, Shireen took a rifle from a police guard and opened fire on them. Both men were injured, but the guards did not stop firing and warned people of dire consequences if they intervened.

Ghulam Raza said Israr’s aunt rushed to the spot and urged people to stop Shireen. However, she was also harassed by the police guards.

“The police station is situated some 300 metres from the site of this mayhem, but the officers on duty refused to file a case,” he said. “They claimed there was a shortage of staff at the station.”

Ghulam Raza said the aunt also went to the MPA’s residence, but was expelled by the women of the house.

According to Ghulam Raza, a case was subsequently registered under Section 324/24, but it was later tampered with and changed to
Section 506.

At the same time, a false case was filed against innocent citizens. He added the MPA assaulted Aslam and Israr because they led a rally to demand the construction of a road.

“We strongly urge the chief minister and IGP to register a case under terrorism charges against Shireen as we have video footage of the incident,” he said.
