MULTAN: A police official probing the murder of social media celebrity Qandeel Baloch has been suspended for poor investigation and negligence, Multan City Police Officer Azhar Ikram said on Tuesday.

Homicide Unit (in-charge) Inspector Ilyas Haider was doing ground investigation into the murder case.

Inspector Attiya Jafri will replace him, Ikram told The Express Tribune. She is famous for conducting transparent investigations into murder, rape and acid attack cases.

Sources in the police told The Express Tribune that Haider was found to be ‘soft’ on Mufti Abdul Qavi and was seen ‘favouring’ him.

Meanwhile, police had decided to shift self-confessed murderer Waseem, Qandeel’s younger brother, to Lahore for polygraph (lie detector) test.

It is good to see women police officers being handed high profile investigations. One hopes that that women officers will be as good, or indeed, better at following due process and procedures during the investigation, not allowing the evidence collected to become inadmissible.
It has become rare to see professionalism and complete respect for laws and procedure in our law enforcement agencies which more often than not enforce their superiors orders or their own whims instead of enforcing the law and sticking to its procedures.Recommend
