ISLAMABAD: The International Islamic University’s academic staff has decided to hold a protest rally on Friday (July 22) to press their demands.

The protest will be held on the day when the university’s board of governors (BoG) is scheduled to meet.

The decision was taken at the general body meeting of the Academic Staff Association on Tuesday where the teaching community of IIUI expressed annoyance for non-resolution of their longstanding problems.

The association’s President Dr Zafar Iqbal said that decision-making body of any university like the executive committee, syndicate or BoG is comprised of at least four elected members from the teaching community.

“However, IIUI is the only example in Pakistan where teaching community is deprived of this right to participate in the decision-making process of the institute.”

The academic staff also expressed concern over the hardship cases, which are lying with the BoG since long and every time they give it a new twist instead of helping the teachers.
