Staving off a crisis: Three IEDs defused in Mohmand Agency

SHABQADAR: At least three improvised explosive devices (IED) were defused in Mohmand Agency. Meanwhile, members of a jirga in Baizai have vowed to throw weight behind the political administration in maintaining law and order near the Pak-Afghan border.

Officials of the political administration of Mohmand told The Express Tribune an IED was planted in Pesha Kor Bazaar of Pandyali, which was defused.

On the other hand, two IEDs planted in Baizai Toora Bara were defused by the BDU of the security forces. A landmine blast also occurred in Sagi Safi area of the agency but no casualties were reported. Separately, a jirga was held in Mohmand Agency after Political Agent Mehmood Aslam Wazir visited Toor Khel, Baizai subdivision.

The political agent advised tribespeople to be vigilant of any militant activity in the area. The jirga members vowed to support the political administration to ensure security and peace in the area.

The political agent also announced the construction of a hydel power project and a road near Pak-Afghan border. He also visited a girls school in the area and announced Rs1.5 million for the institute.
