HYDERABAD:
A grand operation against encroachments to resolve traffic jam issues was announced by Hyderabad deputy commissioner Moatasim Abbasi on Monday. Abbasi warned encroachers to voluntarily clear the roads and rainwater disposal channel in one day or legal action will be taken. The DC directed the municipal commissioner and other relevant officers to carry out the operation under a comprehensive plan so that residents of Hyderabad can be provided relief from long-standing issues of traffic jams and drainage. Development works can not be carried out without clearing encroached areas which requires the cooperation of citizens in public welfare schemes, he said. Three pumping machines were found out of order by Abbasi during a visit to the Islamabad phatak station. He directed Water and Sewerage Authority (Wasa) managing-director to take stern action against negligent staff. Abbasi called for proper working of all staff, machinery and equipment at Wasa along with availability of standby generators to remove all obstacles from the water disposal system, particularly during the monsoon season.
