Books and pens: ‘Funds being utilised to ensure every child goes to school’

Education minister says 30,000 teachers will be inducted in next two years

ABBOTTABAD: Resources are being utilised to streamline the education sector in the province to ensure every child has access to proper schooling without facing any discrimination.

This was said by Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education Muhammad Atif Khan. He expressed these views while speaking to teachers and students at a summer camp for Government Girls High School No 4 and Government Girls High School No 1 in Abbottabad on Saturday.

According to the minister, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led provincial government has taken steps to improve various sectors including education.

“Efforts are under way to fulfil the promise of bringing about a real change [in the sector],” he said.

Taking stock

He added the PTI-led government has utilised the allocated budget for education for fiscal year 2015-16.

“Billions of rupees have been spent on providing missing facilities to government schools, including toilets, boundary walls, play area and furniture,” he said.

“Meanwhile, 800 new IT labs were also established in the province.”

On the cards

Muhammad Atif said 25,000 teachers were hired on merit and 30,000 more will be inducted in the education department during the next two years.

According to the minister, around 84,000 teachers from across the province will be taught English with the help of British Council.

“The government will establish the first women cadet college and 200 smart schools in the province,” he said. “At least, 1,300 community schools will also be set up to promote education.”
