Hit-and-run case: MNA seeks exemption from court appearance

ISLAMABAD:

National Assembly Member Sheikh Rohale Asghar has requested the court to exempt him from appearing in person before the court to stand trial in a hit-and-run case registered against him.

The Kohsar police had booked Asghar for allegedly killing Raz Muhammad, a security guard of a private firm, while he was walking on a footpath in Blue Area.

Shaheen Bibi, the victim’s wife, maintained in the FIR that her husband was walking on a footpath when he was hit by a car GAA-124. She said that the car was being driven by the MNA, who she said, was apparently drunk at the time. She said the victim was the sole bread-earner of the family.

On Saturday, the court was due to indict the MNA but both the parties sought time to reach an out-of-court settlement. Asghar told the court that his driver, Zulfiqar Bhatti, was driving the car and that he was not even in the car.

Asghar also submitted an application seeking exemption from court appearance in person. Judicial Magistrate Humayun Dilawar admitted the application and sought the complainant’s reply at the next hearing on September 10.

Uza Syed | 7 years ago | Reply Why should he be exempted from appearance in the court? If he has enough time to appear regularly onTV talk shows and attempts to be a wise man, which he obviously is not, then he has or should have time to appear in the court also and not contempt it by implying his political duties and importance. Accidents are accidents and can and do happen and it is a moral responsibility to own up the mistake and do whatever help and care can be provided to the victim. Running away from the scene is both ethically and legally wrong and this man Rohail Asghar is guilty of both in addition to telling a lie and shifting his crime to his poor employee, the driver. We all know how these rascals with money and power use their poor employees, EXPLOITERS! Asghar has both, money and political connection, he is a member of our national assembly! The court should not allow him to get away so easily and he must be convicted for all the crimes he committed in addition to lying under oath and thus barred from holding any public office. How can he be trusted to legislate when he has Such a contempt for our laws.
