10 interesting facts from day one of Pakistan-England Test

Misbah and co will start day from 282-6 against Alastair Cook's men

Pakistan are well set at 282-6 after the first day of the first Test against England courtesy captain Misbahul Haq’s impressive 110 off 179 balls which included 18 boundaries.

The Express Tribune takes a look at a few unique numbers from day one.

7 – is the number of consecutive times Pakistan have won the toss in their Test outings (three against Sri Lanka and four against England). Call it coincidence but Misbah has got lady luck on his side. With yesterday’s toss win, he equalled the record for most toss wins by a Pakistani captain held by Intikhab Alam. He won seven tosses on the trot between 1973 and 1974.

2 – is the number of Pakistani batsmen who have scored a century in their first Test in England. Asian Bradman Zaheer Abbas was the first to do so in 1971 when he scored 274 against England at Birmingham. Now, Misbah has become the second Pakistani player ever to do so.

42 – is the age of Misbah who became the oldest Test captain (42 years and 47 days) to score a century in Tests, overcoming the record of Australian Bob Simpson. The Kangaroo's batsman was 41 years and 360 day old when he scored 100 off 200 balls against India at Adelaide in 1978.

8 – is the number of centuries scored by Misbah as the leader of the Pakistani pack – the most by any Pakistan Test captain. He beat the record set by current chief selector Inzamamul Haq who had scored seven tons as the captain of the Test side.

105 – is the number of Test matches Younus Khan has played for Pakistan and in doing so he left behind bowling legend Wasim Akram who represented the country in 104 five-day games. If Younus keeps on playing for another year or two, he can very well beat Inzamamul Haq (119) and Javed Miandad (124) to become the most capped Test player for Pakistan.

148 – is the number of runs Misbah and Asad Shafiq scored for the fifth wicket partnership – the fourth highest by any Pakistani pair at Lord’s. Javed Burki and Nasimul Ghani hold the record for the highest Pakistani partnership on the ‘Home of Cricket’ with 197 runs for the fifth wicket. Inzamam and Mohammad Yousuf are second with 173 runs for the fifth wicket as well, while Mohsin Khan and Zaheer Abbas rank third on the list with 153 runs for the fourth wicket.

3 – is the number of century stands between Misbah and Shafiq in Tests against England. They have batted together in seven innings, including this one.

6 – is the number of times Younus has been dismissed by Stuart Broad – most by any English bowler. All other bowlers have accounted for him for a total of six times together.

0 – is the number of Tests Misbah had played in England before this match. The interesting fact is that England is the only full-member nation where the 42-year-old hadn’t played a Test match.

1 – is the number of time, the team batting first at Lord’s has lost the Test in last 22 matches since 2006 (England beat West Indies in 2012). Pakistan won the toss on Thursday and opted to bat first.
