Army chief confirms death sentences of 12 'hardcore terrorists'

Convicts involved in killing civilians, attacking armed forces and destruction of schools, says ISPR

Army chief General Raheel Sharif confirmed on Tuesday death sentences of 12 “hardcore terrorists”, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

According to the statement, the militants were involved in committing heinous crimes related to terrorism, i.e. killing of civilians, attacks on armed forces and destruction of schools and communication infrastructure.



All culprits were tried in the military courts after which General Raheel finalised the death sentences.

Pakistan reinstated the death penalty and established military courts as part of a crackdown after suffering its deadliest ever extremist attack, when gunmen stormed a school in the Army Public School, Peshawar in 2014 leaving more than 150 people dead.
