ISLAMABAD: In view of the recent kidnapping of the son of a senior member of judiciary, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Anwar Zaheer Jamali has summoned a special meeting on July 18 for examining the security measures related to the protection of judges and their families.

Masked men on June 20 kidnapped the Sindh High Court (SHC) chief justice’s son Ovais Ali Shah from outside a supermarket in Karachi. Expressing concern over the incident, the CJP had directed the top provincial bureaucrats and law enforcement officials to immediately rescue Shah.

A senior official in the Supreme Court told The Express Tribune that chief justices of all high courts, provincial chief secretaries and inspectors general of police (IGPs) will attend the meeting in Islamabad.

Earlier, the CJP separately held meetings with the chief secretaries and IGs of Punjab and Sindh on the same issue. He asked them to take effective measures to tighten the security of judges and the courts.
