Police officials claimed to have killed six suspected terrorists during an encounter in Okara on Wednesday, Radio Pakistan reported.

A raid was carried out in Chak 28/2R after police received intelligence reports about suspected militants hiding in the area, District Police Officer (DPO) Faisal Rana said.

Further, two security personnel were also injured in the exchange of fire, DPO Rana added.

Police claimed to have recovered explosives and detonators along with a map of the DPO's office from the militant hideout.

In April, the Pakistan Army launched a targeted operation against militant outfits in Southern Punjab, days after the deadliest attack in Lahore’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal park.

The military’s media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the launch of coordinated operation in South Punjab.

At least 72 people were killed and more than 233 injured when a suicide bomb ripped through the parking space of a crowded park in Lahore where Christians were celebrating Easter on March 27, 2016.
