Balochistan condemns Indian violence in occupied Kashmir

Spokesperson says Kashmiri struggle for self-determination could not be suppressed with brutal killing of its people

ISLAMABAD: The government of Balochistan has strongly condemned the recent violence in Indian-held Kashmir by its armed forces which resulted in the deaths of as many as 30 innocent Kashmiris.

“Killing of innocent people in Indian-held Kashmir by army and paramilitary forces is highly condemnable act on the part of India,” provincial spokesperson Anwaarul Haq Kakar said.

Demonstrations in the occupied valley follow the killing on Friday of Burhan Wani, a 22-year-old commander of Kashmir’s largest militant group Hizbul Mujahideen (HM), during a gun battle with the government forces.

Kakar told The Express Tribune that the government and the people of Balochistan are worried over the killing of innocent Kashmiris who, he said, are protesting against the brutal murder of Wani by the Indian army last week.



“Protest against the killing of Wani is a democratic and constitutional right of the Kashmiri people,” Kakar said, adding that the people of Balochistan have joined the Kashmiris in their protest.

The spokesperson reminded that it was not for the first time that the Indian armed forces had killed a young Kashmiri who was struggling for independence of his homeland.

“The history has repeatedly established the fact that the Kashmiri youth has always been target of the occupational forces. Tens of thousands of young Kashmiris including students have been killed during their custody in detention centres in different parts of held Kashmir," he said.

Kakar further said over a half million Indian army and paramilitary forces were also involved in the killing of innocent children, women and elderly people since years to continue their illegal occupation in the disputed territory.

He, however, said the Kashmiri struggle for the right of self-determination could not be suppressed with the brutal killing of its people. “With the killing of disarmed people, India has not only violated the international laws of human rights but it is also guilty of the violation of United Nations’ resolution on Kashmir."



The UN resolutions, Kakar recalled, had recognised the right of self-determination for the people of Kashmir.

“Honouring of UN resolution was the only solution of the Kashmir crisis which India would realise soon as the freedom movement of Kashmiris would continue till they achieve their fundamental rights.”

It is for the first time in the recent history that the government of Balochistan has issued a damning statement against India over its oppression in the occupied territory. Previously, the provincial government had been issuing such statements against India for its continuous interference in Balochistan.

Kakar in a previous statement had announced that the security forces busted a large-scale net of terrorists after the arrest of Indian spy Kulbhushan Yadav in March from the bordering areas of the province.
