The decision to ban 'Peace TV Bangla' was taken during a special meeting of Cabinet Committee on Law and Order, according to Industry Minister Aamir Hossain Amu, who chaired the meeting.
It was also decided to monitor sermons given during the Friday prayers to check if any provocative lectures are delivered, Amu said.

The Bangladesh government also appealed imams in the country to deliver lectures in line with real Islamic ideology of condemning terrorism and extremism, the minister added.
Earlier, Bangladesh's intelligence agencies announced they were investigating Naik.

"He is on our security scanner... Our intelligence agencies are investigating his activities as his lectures appeared provocative," Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan told PTI
India’s Maharashtra state chief minister on Thursday also ordered a probe against the Islamic scholar.
