An online petition to rename New Islamabad International Airport after Abdul Sattar Edhi has been gaining signatures at a dizzying pace.
The petition continues to gain new backers with nearly 21,000 signatures by 8:30 pm on Saturday.

A Pakistani S A Kazmi set up the petition “New Islamabad Airport be named as Edhi International Airport, Islamabad” almost a month ago on Change.Org when news media flashed reports about the serious nature of the ailment suffered by the great philanthropist.
However, it had only 50 supporters in the beginning. It got momentum after the demise of Edhi Friday night.
Within 24 hours, the petition received endorsements from 21,000 Pakistanis, while it is doing the rounds on social media with people asking each other to sign.
Abdul Sattar Edhi passes away in Karachi
“Simply a case of merit, no one deserves more than Abdul Sattar Edhi after whom this airport be named… His services to the humanity are unmatchable,” the petitioner mentioned the reason behind his move.
The petition upon receiving significant number of signatures will be delivered to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for a decision.
