PESHAWAR: An Eid gathering was arranged by University of Peshawar (UoP) for students who did not go home during the holidays.

According to a press release issued on Friday, the event was organised at the varsity’s guesthouse. It was attended by students from Yemen, Indonesia, UAE, South Korea, Chitral, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kurram and North Waziristan agencies who were on campus during the holidays.

A large number of students said they eagerly awaited the event as it provided them an opportunity to meet their friends during the festive occasion.

Noble pursuit

“It gives me more happiness to share this festive moment with you than with my own family,” the document quoted UoP former dean Professor Dr Farooq Swati as saying.

He added foreign students and those who hailed from unstable areas have left their homes to get an education and ought to be treated with special care. He added they were “true ambassadors of UoP”.

According to Swati, foreign students should help portray the true image of Pakistan and its people to the world once they graduate.

“I am sure after graduating from UoP, these students will help rectify misperceptions that prevail in the world about us,” the handout quoted him as saying.

On the occasion, Registrar Dr Syed Fazle Hadi said the institute has resolved to provide facilities to enhance enrolment of foreign students at the university.

“Special steps are also being taken to encourage more people from less developed areas to enroll at UoP,” the press release quoted Hadi as saying. “Students from underdeveloped areas must strive harder to achieve academic excellence when compared to students from the rest of the country. They have to prove that people from their areas are peace-loving, progressive and want a safer world too.”
