‘Family pressure’: Young man’s body recovered

KARACHI: A rescue team managed to retrieve on Friday the body of a young man who allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the Native Jetty Bridge on Thursday.

Muhammad Zain, 25, allegedly jumped off the bridge and drowned. His family was aware of the incident as he had called them before taking the leap. Zain wanted to marry of free will but his family had not agreed, said victim’s step-father, Shams.

“On Thursday evening at around 8pm, he called to warn us about his plan,” he said. Zain’s family then reached the bridge but were too late.

Police and rescue teams reached the site and started a rescue operation but were unable to find Zain. SHO Amin Marri said that the rescuers managed to find and retrieve the body, which was trapped in the mangroves. He said that it was a suicide case and hence, no FIR was registered.
