KARACHI: Following the suspension of Dr Farooq Ahmed from the post of South SSP, Inspector General of Police Allah Dino Khawaja has appointed Saqib Ibrahim Memon as the new chief of the South district, according to a notification issued on Tuesday.

Memon was serving as the AIGP of Forensic Division Sindh and has been posted in various districts in Karachi and rural Sindh. He had also been posted at the Counter-Terrorism Department.

Dr Ahmed and SP Amjad Hayat were suspended by the Sindh government after the kidnapping of barrister Owais Ali Shah, son of Sindh High Court Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah. However, after a few days the government withdrew the order of Dr Farooq's suspension, while SP Hayat remained suspended. The top judges also took notice of the political influence in Karachi police and ordered for his suspension in the last hearing on the Karachi unrest case at the Supreme Court Registry in Karachi on July 4.
