KARACHI:
The Defence Housing Authority (DHA) has decided to rename a road in Phase-VIII in honour of social activist Abdul Sattar Edhi.

Beach Avenue has been renamed as Abdul Sattar Edhi Avenue in order to acknowledge the philanthropist's services. The road stretches from Khayaban-e-Ittehad all the way to Do Darya - a five kilometre stretch.

The inaugural ceremony, according to DHA Administrator Brigadier Zubair Ahmed, will take place after Eid. Talking to The Express Tribune, he said the decision to change the name of the road was taken in the meeting of the DHA executive board, headed by Corps Commander Lt Gen Naveed Mukhtar, on Monday to recognise Edhi's services for humanity. "This [Beach Avenue Road] is the most important road of DHA," he said. The administrator prayed for the health, long life and wellbeing of Edhi, a press statement issued by the authority quoted the administrator as saying.

Responding to DHA's move, head of Edhi Foundation and son of Abdul Sattar Edhi, Faisal Edhi, said it was an immensely happy moment for them as his father has been bestowed with respect and his services have been acknowledged. "We wish the people also remember Edhi sahab's teachings," he added.
