Clueless when paperless: Prospective students face problems with online registration

Many of them do not have access to internet, are not computer literate

PESHAWAR: Students applying for admissions to government colleges at the intermediate level have voiced a series of concerns regarding the online admission system that has been implemented across the province.

Many of them complained about facing difficulties when using the online registration process as the admissions page is not easily accessible.

Moreover, most students have said they do not even have access to the internet and the whole online process made little sense to them. Sajjid Khan, a student, told The Express Tribune the online registration process was complicated and a majority of students did not have internet access.

The other side

Islamia College Peshawar (ICP) Admissions Assistant Director Amir Azhar told The Express Tribune students can easily send their data through online registration. He said ICP was the first institute in the province to introduce online system.

“Earlier, students had problems with it,” Azhar said. “However, with the passage of time, accessing the form and submitting it has become easier.” He added ICP runs both type of admission – the online system as well as issuing a prospectus for students who do not have internet access.

The backdrop

The provincial government had launched an online admission system in 16 colleges of the provincial capital in 2015. This year, the system was extended to all colleges of K-P to facilitate admission process for students.

After Secondary School Certificate (SSC) results were announced, colleges across the province started admission process for FA/FSC admission. However, this time students were directed to register before the admission process commenced.

Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Information and Higher Education Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani said, “There is no need to attach documents with the application form anymore since data of all candidates will be checked online which is easy and convenient for students.” He added under the system students will get tracking IDs and can check statuses of their application at any time without
visiting colleges.
