LAHORE: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Punjab organising committee member Chaudhary Manzoor said on Tuesday that a protest camp against the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government would be set at the Minar-i-Pakistan where Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif used to hold sit-ins against the PPP’s government.

He was speaking at a seminar organised by Bhutto Lovers’ Forum to condemn the ouster of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s government by General Ziaul Haq on July 5, 1977. He said the PPP would launch a movement against the government after Eid holidays. He said remnants of General Zia’s regime were still present in the government.

Manzoor said PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto would soon visit the province. “Love for the Bhutto family is alive in the hearts of millions of people,” he said.

Panamagate: All praise for PPP

The PPP leader said that the Panama Leaks controversy would not go away any time soon. He said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was trying to further the mission of his political godfather, Ziaul Haq.

He said Bhutto government was working on establishing an Islamic Bank when it was overthrown. Bhutto had a plan to bring investment from fellow Islamic countries to the Islamic Bank but some forces prevented its realisation, he added.

Manzoor said there were no differences between Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto. The PPP would play its role in exposing the government’s corruption.

He said Nawaz Sharif’s approach to regional issues was the same as Indian Prime Minister Narendera Modi’s.
