Naming public property
I appeal to lawmakers to please take special interest in naming public property of prominent personalities
RAWALPIND:
There appears to be no definite system or criteria for naming pubic property, including institutions, buildings and roads. Consequently, an international airport has been named after a leader who opposed the creation of Pakistan. I admire him for his struggle and sacrifices for independence but he is not relevant to Pakistan. Similarly, political parties in power name roads and public institutions after their leaders who were important for parties but not necessarily for the entire nation. Furthermore, roads have been named after those who were not nation-builders but entertainers, who were admired by those in power.
I appeal to lawmakers to please take special interest in naming public property of prominent personalities who are or were nation-builders or saviours, acceptable to the majority as role models.
