ISLAMABAD: A low-ranked official of the Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) Council Secretariat allegedly opened fire and injured a section officer at his office here on Wednesday.

Tanveer Ahmed, a resident of Dhok Suleman in H-13, worked as a naib qasid at the G-B Council Secretariat, located in the Press Information Department (PID) building near Zero Point.

He allegedly pulled out a pistol and fired on Abdul Razzaq, a section officer. Razzaq sustained a bullet wound to his rib and was taken to a hospital.

Meanwhile, the co-workers overpowered Ahmed and turned him over to the Aabpara police.

Police said Ahmed had applied for the post of a clerk within his office and was angry with Razzaq, who had reportedly favoured another candidate for the job.

Sub-Inspector Mehar Aslam  said the police had arrested the suspect and recovered two pistols from him.

He said an FIR would be registered by Wednesday evening.
