Jalebis are consumed all year round, but when Ramazan arrives, the demand skyrockets

ISLAMABAD: Traditional foods such as pheni, bakar khani and doodh jalebi consumed especially during sehri hours leave an indelible mark on those observing Ramazan.

Traditional foods are considered part of reviving Ramazan festivities.

A professor, Ali Hassan, said that sehri should comprise nutritious and healthy meals to meet energy needs for the day.

“I try to keep my food very light and full of fibre, proteins, and complex carbohydrates. I also focus on traditional and hydrating foods as Ramazan is observed during the summer months this year. For sehri, I like to have doodh jalebi,” he added.

A housewife, Alina, said that “doodh jalebi has amazing health benefits. Our forefathers were very fond of this sweet dish.”

Jalebis are consumed all year round, but when Ramazan arrives, the demand skyrockets.

The hot milk poured over the jalebis makes for a mouth-wateringly tempting sweet dish.

A shopkeeper, Azam Ali, stated that the demand for pheni and bakar khani were also on the rise.

A student, Asma Zaid, said “I always have sehri with pheni or bakar khani with tea or milk because it is very light with high in nutritional qualities.”

Ramazan is a month where the many tastes of our traditional delicacies come alive with an surge in the demand for these food items.
