PU Syndicate approves Rs7.727b budget

HEC scholarships worth Rs80 million and Punjab Education Endowment Fund (PEEF) scholarships will also be offered

LAHORE: The Punjab University Syndicate on Saturday approved Rs7.727 billion budget for the year 2016-17, a press statement said. Vice Chancellor Mujahid Kamran chaired the meeting.

The university expects a Rs2.445 billion grant from the Higher Education Commission (HEC), 33 per cent of the budget. The university has meanwhile enhanced research grant from Rs110 million to Rs120 million.The Syndicate approved the proposal by university authorities not to increase tuition fee for on-campus students. It approved recommendations to complete university selection board. An increment for teachers on tenure track system was also approved. The university will continue to offer free education, free boarding and a Rs3,000 stipend a month for students from Balochistan. Special students will also be provided free education and boarding facilities. Students getting enrolled on sports basis, too, will be provided free education. Tuition fees for Hafiz-i-Quran will be waived. The university has allocated Rs70 million for overseas scholarships and Rs70 million for participation in national and international conferences. The university will provide Rs100 million to its students under the heads of scholarships, student affairs and career counseling. HEC scholarships worth Rs80 million and Punjab Education Endowment Fund (PEEF) scholarships will also be offered. The university management will offer a Rs200 million hostel subsidy, a Rs33 million transport subsidy and a Rs6.5 million internet subsidy.
