Pillion riding banned in Karachi for three days

Ban will be in place from June 26 to June 28 for Youm-e-Ali

Sindh government on Saturday announced to impose a ban on pillion riding in view of the law and order situation during Youm-e-Ali on June 27.

The day is observed every year to commemorate the martyrdom of Hazrat Ali, Prophet Muhammad's (pbuh) cousin and son-in-law.

The ban, advised for Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur, will come into force on Sunday and remain in place till June 28.

A notification issued in this regard by Sindh Home Department exempted women, children under the age of 12 years, aged or disabled citizens, journalists and law enforcement officials from the restriction.



Karachi is witnessing a volatile law and order situation after the recent killing of qawwali maestro Amjad Sabri Amjad Sabri and abduction of Sindh High Court Chief Justice's son in the city.

The government had previously imposed ban on pillion riding on March 1 following the execution of Mumtaz Qadri, the self-confessed killer of Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer.

Law enforcement agencies, including paramilitary Rangers, have been involved in an operation in Karachi for the last more than three years to purge the city of criminal elements.
