KARACHI: Substandard pipe manufacturers have destroyed the sewerage system of Karachi, lamented Karachi Development Authority (KDA) director-general Syed Nasir Abbas during a visit to the KDA pipe manufacturing facility on Tuesday. He added that, in Asia, it is only the KDA pipe factory that is capable of making 84-inch diameter pipes. He said that the factory can also meet the demands of K-V project if it is initiated in the future. While briefing Abbas, KDA pipe factory manager Amanat Mirani said that even today, the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board uses the pipes of KDA in their underground lines. “Only the KDA pipe factory has the required skills to make high quality 84-inch diameter pipes,” he claimed. Talking to the labourers of the pipe factory, Abbas assured them that all of the pending issues of the pipe factory workers will be resolved on immediate basis. He said that it was his first visit after the revival of KDA.
