State Life Insurance secures Rs9.3b premium

Company considering launching new life insurance plans so people can invest small savings in policies.

KARACHI: The State Life Insurance Corporation (Slic) has secured Rs9.33 billion as first-year premium during 2010, an increase of 35 per cent compared to the previous year.

Slic Chairman Shahid Aziz Siddiqui said that the company extended financial protection to 651,460 new families during the year, an increase of 24 per cent. Siddiqui pointed out that during the year the company disbursed Rs14.57 billion as bonus to its policyholders.

He said that the company  is considering launching new life insurance plans so people can invest their small savings in the policies.

He also pointed to the company’s  improving business in the Gulf region, which showed a 16.1 per cent growth in 2010.
