According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series about the final months of the legendary pop icon’s life will be based on Tavis Smiley’s book, Before You Judge Me: The Triumph and Tragedy of Michael Jackson's Last Days.

The book illustrates Michael’s struggles in the world of glamour, the ups and downs in his life, his desire for privacy and the pressures he felt due to his fame.

Smiley is the author of 19 books and the Jackson series marks his latest TV venture. The writer is also working on a memoir of his 30-year friendship with the late poet Maya Angelou.
His upcoming projects include, Showtime's Cameron Crowe music drama Roadies and HBO's Westworld.
