Highhandedness: RPO told to submit report on homicide case
Some of the suspects were arrested in connection with the case but were later released

The police inspector general (IGP) has given the Bahawalpur regional police officer seven days to submit a report on why some suspects in a murder case were released by the homicide in-charge official of that area. The IGP had read about the matter in a newspaper. According to news reporters, Muhammad Uzair, a madrassah student from Chak 36/DNB, near Bahawalpur city, was on his way home after saying Isha prayers a few months ago when some unidentified man kidnapped him. They took him to an unidentified location and raped him. They later murdered him and dumped the body in some fields. Some of the suspects were arrested in connection with the case but were later released.
Uzair’s relatives staged a protest demonstration and a newspaper published a story on it.
IG Mushtaq Sukhera wrote to the RPO directing him to investigate the matter.
