PESHAWAR: A specialised department has been formed at Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Economic Zones Development & Management Company (KPEZDMC) to revive industrial units in the province. Efforts are also under way to support local and foreign investors to boost the economy of the province.

This was stated in a press release issued on Monday. According to the document, the department is working towards the revival of “sick industrial units”. This will lead to a chain of economic activities to improve the overall economic condition of K-P.

The new strategies would promote industrialisation, increase productivity and create job opportunities for the people of the province.

“The company has held several meetings with the owners of industrial units to identify the reasons for the closure of the business and to suggest measures to bring them back into production,” the press release stated. “Of them, 25% of the reported issues related to bottlenecks were addressed during the last one month.”

The company is working on a policy to help the owners of unutilised plots in various industrial estates to set up factories and start operations. The KPEZDMC will help remove obstacles in the way of making genuine use of industrial plots.

“The company is in a process of developing 18 economic zones and industrial estates,” the document stated. “Of these, eight are directly connected to China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.”
