Rest in peace : PTI legislator dies of cardiac arrest

The Pakistan Tehreek Insaf (PTI) Punjab Assembly member from Taxila Muhammad Siddique Khan died of cardiac arrest on Sunday morning.

He was younger brother of the PTI central leader and National Assembly Member Ghulam Sarwar Khan and former provincial assembly member Shafique Khan.

According to family sources, he felt pain in his chest at around 5am and was rushed to a private hospital in Rawalpindi where he breathed his last.

He received countrywide recognisation when he beat the PML-N Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan in 2013 by clinching a record 48,440 votes.

Siddique started his political career as Rawalpindi District Council member as peasant councilor in 1990.

He was born on July 1, 1956 in Taxila.

An agriculturist and a businessman, Siddique was serving as Standing Committee on Environment Protection chairperson.


He served as Taxila Tehsil nazim for two consecutive terms during 2002-2010.

His brother, Ghulam Sarwar Khan served as Punjab Assembly member for three consecutive terms during 1985-1988, 1988-1990 and 1990-1993 and also remained MNA and served as federal minister during 2007.

Sarwar is a sitting MNA.

His other brother, Muhammad Shafique Khan also served as Punjab Assembly member during 2008-2013.

Siddique was buried at his ancestral graveyard in Pind Nowsheri near Taxila.

The funeral was attended by a large number of his supporters, well wishers, leaders from different political parties and parliamentarians from across the country.
