LOS ANGELES: TV host Ellen DeGeneres said when she was approached to voice Dory in Finding Dory, she was apprehensive if she still suited the character 13 years after giving it a voiceover for Finding Nemo.

“I was worried that my voice would start changing and I couldn’t be Dory anymore ... Hoping my voice doesn’t change too much if we do another sequel to this. But I’m just elated that we are here talking about it and doing it,” Ellen said in a promotion interview for the Disney movie.

“Obviously I’m excited and I can’t believe … I mean I was campaigning for a sequel to Finding Nemo. I didn’t think it would be Finding Dory so that was a surprise when I got a call 13 years later,” she said, adding that it feels like no time has passed. Ellen also had fun working with the cast.

Just keep swimming: Dory’s journey is relatable says Ellen

“What’s exciting is that she (Dory) meets all these new friends along the way which is really fun, I mean we have a great cast. Working with Ed O’Neill was hilarious and Ty Burrell is hilarious,” she said.  She also said sang praises for the film’s director Andrew Stanton. “I mean he has saved me, saved me in many ways because when he created this character for me, I wasn’t working at the time. So for him to think of me and put me in this huge movie, it was the greatest thing that could ever happen to me at the time and it was the greatest experience.”

She said, for many reasons, Dory was a great character for her to play. “I love Andrew for that,” she said.

The sequel to the 2003 film, Finding Dory also features the voices of Albert Brooks as Marlin, Burrell as Bailey, Kaitlin Olson as Destiny, O’Neill as Hank, Diane Keaton as Jenny and Eugene Levy as Charlie.

Finding Dory was released in the US on June 17.
