LAHORE:

Pakistan Sunni Tehreek’s Sarwat Ejaz Qadri on Saturday moved Lahore High Court (LHC) against a ban on him from entering the Punjab.  The petitioner told the court that the ban—imposed by the Home Department—constituted a violation of his fundamental rights. He said a representation challenging the ban had been lying pending before the pertinent secretary for weeks. Qadri requested the court to set aside the department’s notification regarding the ban and rescind it.  The provincial government had banned Qadri from entering the Punjab earlier in February, 2016. The provincial government had feared that that Sunni Tehreek leader’s entry into the province would compromise public order.
