Apart from Asif, veteran Mohammad Sajjad, the 2013 World Team champion, was also axed from the squad as the Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA) opted to name Babar Masih, Sohail Shahzad, Asjad Iqbal and Mohammad Bilal for the events.
Asif, meanwhile, expressed his disappointment at not having made the squad. “It’s disappointing to miss out on such important events, but I want to wish my fellow players good luck and hope that they would do well for Pakistan.”

He, however, added that the selected players deserve the spot because they have been performing well in recent tournaments. “All I can say is that they deserve [their spot] on the basis of their national ranking because if players finishing in top three or four will not get a chance, they will be demotivated. It will be a good experience for them and I pray they will have a successful campaign.”
