The step would provide the public with a database of criminals which could be accessed online. In addition, they could also help the police identify the criminals with the help of the database. If people have fallen victim to a crime, they could help the police identify the criminal through the database.
Speaking to The Express Tribune on Saturday, IGP Nasir Khan Durrani said they had decided to put the pictures and all relevant information about criminals involved in heinous crimes on their official website to make it easier to identify them. He said the data of those criminals and terrorists, whose name had been published in the police red book, were not included.

“In the red book, we have mentioned the names of wanted terrorists and criminals who have a head money on their arrest,” he said. “We are going to place the bio data and pictures of those people who were previously involved in heinous crimes, arrested by the police and sent to jails.”
The IGP added, “If these people engaged in criminal activities again then the data available online would help the public identify them and inform police about it.”
The official added the decision was taken in a meeting after the murder of trader leader Haji Haleem Jan, who was killed by extortionists in Qissa Khwani Bazaar.
“The police suspect those who were involved in extortion in the past have started their criminal activities once again after their release from jails,” he said. “That is why they are being interrogated.”
