Permanency: PHC orders regularisation of FATA dental surgeons

Court also stays sacking of class-IV employees of Town-II, Peshawar

PESHAWAR: A division bench of the Peshawar High Court ordered the regularisation of dental surgeons working in different hospitals in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).

The orders were issued by the bench of Justice Nisar Hussain and Justice Daud Khan as it heard a petition filed by eight dental surgeons, including Dr Mir Zaman. The case was filed through their counsel Ijaz Anwar.

The bench was told petitioners were working ad hoc in different hospitals in the tribal areas for years.

He said the government passed an act for the regularisation of employees through which hundreds benefitted, but his clients were ignored.

He added authorities gave the excuse that dental surgeons had not been mentioned in the act. The counsel maintained an amendment was introduced and dental surgeons were included. “Therefore, their services must be regularised,” he asserted. The bench, after hearing the arguments, accepted the plea and ordered authorities to implement the order.

The same bench heard another petition filed by class-VI employees of Town-II, Peshawar. The court put a stay order on termination of their services and issued a notice to the town nazim.

Khalid Rahman, the counsel representing petitioners, argued the nazim ordered termination of their services after local government elections.

Rahman said no notice was issued to the petitioners on the termination of their services. The counsel said the victims were subjected to political victimisation and requested the bench to reinstate their services.

The bench, after hearing the arguments, issued notices to the nazim and sought a reply from him.
