Gangster: Zanglani gang chief killed in 'encounter'

The ringleader was allegedly involved in cases of kidnapping, including that of National Assembly Deputy Secretary

DERA GHAZI KHAN: The ringleader of the Zanglani gang and proclaimed offender Ghulam Husain Zanglani was killed in a police ‘encounter’ on Thursday. He was allegedly involved in cases of kidnap for ransom and other heinous crimes, including the kidnapping of National Assembly Deputy Secretary Malik Moazzam Ali Kalru earlier this year.

Acting on a tipoff, a heavy contingent of police assisted by the CIA cordoned Sipper R-2 area along River Indus where the proclaimed offender was holed up along with members of his gang. After an exchange of heavy gunfire, the ringleader was killed while his accomplices managed to escape.

Zanglani carried a head money of Rs2.5 million. In March, Member of the Punjab Assembly Sardar Jamal Laghari had raised the issue in the Punjab Assembly and demanded an operation against the gang.
