MULTAN: A man has confessed to attacking his wife and daughters with acid, Shujabad police said on Saturday.

A police spokesman said Shahid, a resident of Maraliwahan village, had told them that he had poured acid over his wife and two daughters on Friday night while they were asleep.

The spokesman said earlier, Shahid had moved a complaint that some unidentified men had broken into his house and attacked his family. He had told police that the men had also beaten him. He said 26-year-old Iqra and her daughters Alishba and Zahra had suffered serious burns and were taken to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital from where doctors had referred them to Nishtar Hospital in Multan.

Doctors at Nishtar Hospital told newsmen that Iqra had suffered 70 per cent burns. They said her condition was critical.  They said her daughters were stable.

The police spokesman said a case had been registered under Sections 336-B (hurt by corrosive substance), 452 (trespass after preparation to hurt), 34 of Pakistan Penal Code and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) against Shahid.

The spokesman said the suspect had injured himself to avoid raising suspicion.

“We arrested Shahid after investigating the case for 12 hours.

He confessed to attacking his wife and his daughters in police custody, saying he suspected that his wife was having an affair.”
