Showcasing talent: Woman delegation to visit UK in July

Will consist of members from textile, jewellery, beauty industry

ISLAMABAD: An eighteen-member delegation from the Rawalpindi and Islamabad Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IWCCI) will visit the United Kingdom in July to showcase products and hold one-on-one meetings with British businesswomen.

“The UK-Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry is eager to promote Pakistani women entrepreneurs and artisans in Britain,” said IWCCI Founder President Samina Fazil, after her meeting with UK-Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Director Tehsin Aslam, who is currently visiting Pakistan.

Talking to The Express Tribune, Fazil said the delegation would comprise of businesswomen from the textile, embroidery, jewellery and beauty industry. The primary purpose of the visit is to hold exhibitions of their products in the UK, as that would help these women get orders for exports.

“In Pakistan, the women are in majority and have the potential to play a greater role in boosting the country’s economy,” she said, adding that a large number of Pakistani women were unemployed and suffered because of unequal opportunities at the workplace. “We all must strive to change this.”

“There is a great demand of Pakistani crafts in the UK which must be capitalised for the collective good,” said UK-Pak CCI Director Tehsin Aslam.

“The chamber would take all measures to give necessary information and support to local artisans and women associated with other businesses as promotion of their crafts would help them develop linkages with the international market.”

Aslam also asked the IWCCI to help the UK-Pakistan CCI in promoting Sindhi, Balochi and Punjabi handmade embroidery along with block-printed material, ajrak, blue pottery, camel skin and gabba work.
