Power outages in Ramazan

Letter June 09, 2016
The government announced a few days back that the people would not have to suffer through long hours of power outages

KARACHI: It is the government’s responsibility to make life a little easier for the public during the holy month of Ramazan, whether it is through ensuring the availability of basic items of daily use or basic facilities. The recent rise in the prices of essential items serves as a reminder that this is not the first time life has been made harder for the Pakistani public.

Since last year, the month of Ramazan is materialising in severe hot weather and the common man has to bear numerous kinds of hardships. The government announced a few days back that the people would not have to suffer through long hours of power outages during the month, which was music to everyone’s ears. However, as usual, the authorities could not live up to their word and people are still experiencing prolonged power outages in this scorching heat. The government needs to live up to its promises and show respect for the holy month.

Looking forward to a little bit of humanity.
