India’s “Dalit Queen” Mayawati has backed the drug themed Bollywood movie, saying there was “nothing wrong” with the film Udta Punjab.
“There is nothing wrong with the film. [the] BSP supports it,” chief of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) said on Thursday, reported The Economic Times.
"The movie seeks to create awareness among people against the bad effects of drug use," she said.
Udta Punjab 'grounded' by Indian censor board
The film depicts how the youth in Indian Punjab succumbed to drugs, and is set to release on June 17.
The Censor Board for Film Certification's concerns with the film’s content had raised many questions because the trailer was faced with zero contentions.
