The leading institute of distance education in Pakistan has started collaborating with foreign educational institutes to advance educational standards. The Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has started working with foreign educational institutes to promote open and distance learning, over the internet, to upgrade educational standards from primary school to the PhD level. On Wednesday, the AIOU Vice-Chancellor, Dr Shahid Siddiqui, told a visiting delegation from the European Union (EU), that the institute was already in contact with other international open universities, to develop a national policy on open and distance learning. The delegation was led by the EU Development Adviser Michele Rizzi, who visited the AIOU as a part of their on-going efforts to further develop socio-economic partnership with Pakistan, with particular regard to educational institutions.
