QUETTA: Gunmen shot dead three day-labourers and injured another in a targeted attack in the Naseerabad district of the volatile Balochistan province on Tuesday.

Gunmen riding on motorcycles opened random fire on day-labourers working on an infrastructure project in the Manjo Shura area of Tambo tehsil, according to local police. Three labourers lay dead and one was injured when the gunmen escaped unidentified and unchallenged.

Police and administration officials shifted the casualties to the District Headquarters Hospital where the dead were identified as Kareem Bakhsh, resident of Jacobabad; and Bashir Ali and Mujahid, residents of Sukkur, while the injured, Manzoor Ahmed, is a resident of Dera Murad Jamali.

Police were clueless about who killed the labourers and why. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the deadly gun attack.

Balochistan has been wrecked by ethnic, sectarian, militant and separatist violence for over a decade. In other violence, unidentified men shot dead a man and dumped his body on Qambrani Road of Quetta on Tuesday.

“The victim was shot at point blank range,” a police official said. He was shot twice in the head and leg. The body was evacuated to the Bolan Medical College Hospital where it was identified as Dawood Khan. Police registered a case and started investigation.
