KARACHI: Sindhi poet Ayaz Jani passed away on Sunday in Larkana due to heart attack at the age of 49.

He was laid to rest in Gulshan-e-Hadeed in Karachi on Monday. Ayaz was admitted to Larkana Teaching Hospital following heart complications.

Born in a middle-class family, Ayaz Hussain Memon aka Ayaz Jani had his primary education in his village Areeja in Larkana district and continued his secondary education at Naudero Government School. After completing his Master's in Sindhi Literature from Shah Latif University, he secured a government job in the telecommunication department and later qualified for the Sindh Public Service Commission for the post of a lecturer.

Jani had been writing poetry since his school days and gained popularity as romantic poet. In his book, Shaikh Ayaz, a noted Sindhi poet, had lauded the poetry of a few emerging young Sindhi poets and the name of Ayaz Jani was at the top of the list.

Jani was an active member of the Sindhi Abadi Sanghat, a literary organisation, and his dedication to literature can be measured by the fact that he recently underwent an angioplasty and doctors had advised him to rest but he continued traveling in order to attend literary gatherings.

Since his family is now settled in Gulshan-e- Hadeed, therefore his body was brought to Karachi where he was laid to rest.
