In a first: Jeep rally held at Torkham

Initiative ended at Bab-e-Khyber; winner got car

LANDI KOTAL: A jeep rally was organised for the first time in Torkham, a town in Khyber Agency on Sunday. Various people from across the agency participated.

The purpose of the jeep rally was to spread the message of peace, Khyber Agency Assistant Political Agent Khalid Mehmood said on the occasion. The political administration of Khyber Agency organised the rally.

The jeep rally started from Torkham, at the Pak-Afghan border, and ended at Bab-e-Khyber in Jamrud.

More than 60 people participated in the race. The border remained close when the rally was under way.

As the chief guest at the event, K-P Chief Secretary Amjad Ali distributed prices among the participants. The person who stood first, Babar, was given a car as the price, while Shakeel, who stood second, got Rs0.2 million.

Ali lauded the initiative of the event, saying such competitions are healthy and play a vital role in promoting sports.

“Tribespeople are educated people – such events will tell the world that tribespeople are peace lovers.”

Jeep rally kicks off with parade

Music programmes were also held at the event which was attended by a large number of tribespeople.

Besides officials of the political administration, MNA Shah Jee Gul and officials of the Frontier Corps were also present on the occasion.
