Pak-Afghan commission a good omen: Sherpao

Former interior minister says the joint commission will give impetus to the on-going engagement process.

PESHAWAR: Former Interior Minister and Pakistan Peoples Party Sherpao (PPPS) Chairman Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao on Sunday welcomed the announcement of a joint commission between Pakistan and Afghanistan and called it a good omen to enhance mutual consultation in fighting terrorism and militancy.

The veteran politician said it would give impetus to the on-going engagement process and promote understanding for peace and security in the entire region. He said the commission would enhance the process of consultation between the two countries and remove misconceptions. The commission would build trust for achieving our shared objectives, he added.

Sherpao said that peace in Afghanistan is vital for the stability in the region. He said that Pakistan would benefit from peace in war-torn Afghanistan, calling peace vital for development and highlighting the joint commission’s role. He underlined the need to revive the peace jirga system to discuss and settle disputes.
