LAHORE: Leader of Opposition in the Provincial Assembly Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed on Thursday submitted an adjournment motion in the assembly secretariat alleging corruption and misappropriation of over Rs80 million at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat. The motion claims that funds at the chief minister’s disposal are being misappropriated.

The motion states that according to finance rules, discretionary funds could not be deposited in a commercial bank. Rasheed’s motion says during an audit of the CM’s secretariat, it was revealed that the secretary to the chief minister had deposited millions from the CM’s discretionary funds in a commercial bank without approval from the Finance Department. “First, Rs59.4 million was withdrawn from the discretionary funds and deposited in a commercial bank. This was followed by a second tranche of Rs26 million deposited in the same manner.” No record of the transaction was provided during the audit.
