PESHAWAR: At least three people were killed while two others were injured when workers of Pakistan Peoples Party and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz opened fire on each other within the jurisdiction of Khazana police station on Thursday.

Talking to The Express Tribune, Khazana DSP said the incident took place in Takhtabad and all those involved were closely related to each other.

“PPP worker Nawaz and his son Alam as well as PML-N worker Nisar and his son Talha wanted to hoist their party’s flag at Zakir’s house in Takhtabad village,” he said. “All of them were related to Zakir. An argument started which turned into an armed clash where PPP members opened fire, killing Nisar and his 18-year-old son Talha,”

Personal Dispute: Govt employee shot dead

Other relatives of the deceased opened retaliatory fire, killing Alam on the spot and leaving his father, Nawaz, injured. A passer-by identified as Abdul Wakeel was also wounded

“They are close relatives but party affiliations caused the murder of three people and left two injured,” the DSP said.

He added the wounded had been sent to separate hospitals to avoid further confrontation between party members.

“One person from each party has also been arrested,” the DSP said. “We have deployed heavy contingent of police in the village as a security measure.” An FIR has yet to be registered.
